The Jaffna International Airport is to be upgrade its facilities to international standards, utilizing grant of INR 300 million received from India. Earlier the first phase development of the airport was completed by the previous regime and an indian air carrier provides connections from Jaffna to India and intends flying to other global destinations as an international carrier. Other international carriers have also been invited to operate through it. However, as reported previously in Northern Breeze there are shortcomings in the Jaffna Airport at present such as in landing facilities and others. The Indian grant of Indian Rs. 300 Million will be utilized for the expansion and upgrading of the Airport is expected to reduce the airport levies on passengers flying through the Jaffna Airport.
