Ecosystem diversity deals with the variations in ecosystems within a geographical location and its overall impact on human existence and the environment. Today children, who finish schooling are well aware of ecosystem and its importance.
Unfotunately, this cannot be said of their parents, who are ignorant of the value of Sinharaja as a natural World Heritage site. It continues to be recognized by the discovery of several endemic species of plants and animals since the declaration of this forest as a World Heritage in 1988.
For the country’s environment is sure to be affected by the project to set up two massive water bodies within the Singaraja forest; thus people are making a big mistake. It is certain to impact the life of our future generations.
The authorities have planned to plant trees on fifty acres of land, as an alternative to the five acres of forest to be destroyed by the project. But this is never a good solution as this project will not only destroy the trees, but with it also many more creatures, to end up disturbing the eco system.
Whereas young people, who finish schooling are well aware that no matter how many trees are planted, such pollution cannot be compensated at all.
In this scenario, with people as parents in Sri Lanka, who do not understand ecosystems, nor value forest reserves, as the Sinharaja. For they have left the country in disarray by sending as their representatives to parliament, who do not realize that the country’s environment is sure to be affected by the project to set up massive water bodies within the Singaraja forest. Fortunately, there are still some good people’s representatives left, this has resulted many protests to save environments!
