In 2009, with the end of the civil war, the time came to rectify the narrow debate on the ethnic issue of the Sri Lankan people, to given to the Tamil-speaking people a peaceful atmosphere in the political arena.
However, when the protracted civil war came to finish, with the consequences of the government’s failure to use its victory wisely and manage the people in the North Eastern Region resulted in a crisis far greater than the pre-war crisis. Consequently, the mentality of people affected by the war has only continued to cultivate animosity.
On the contrary, the story would have been very different and exemplary if the government had been able to act with necessary wisdom and humility to ensure justice and fairness to the distressed people following end of war.
Today, the problems of Tamil people are still unresolved, due to failure of the Tamil National political parties, to act unanimously on the matter. It is in this situation the President, has called on the Tamil Diaspora and its organizations for talks.
In this scenario, the Tamils living in North Eastern Region of Sri Lanka in particular should inform these diaspora organizations to accept this offer from their President with an open mind and act with necessary wisdom and humility to resolve all outstanding problems to bring justice and fairness to all the distressed Tamils in the country!
