Dhammapada and Lankan rulers!

The Dhammapada: Verses and Stories uttered by Lord Buddha, while residing at Jetavana monastery. The Verse 127 states: “Neither in the sky nor in mid-ocean, nor by entering into mountain clefts, nowhere in the world is there a place where one may escape from the results of evil deeds”.

Even though the rulers of Sri Lanka from 1948 to 2021 were tainted by the country’s ethno-religious and communal events; they had many opportunities to apologize for the horrific acts of extremism to all the victims of the barbarism of their party and it’s governments, unfortunately no one ever did! Ironically today, all Sri Lankans have seen in real life those lines in the Buddhist Dhammapada verse 127 of the Lord Buddha.

In this sinario, these profound words should ring in every place of worship in the country irrespective of religion; to enlighten future rulers to follow the teachings of Lord Buddha and enable them to serve their country better than their predecessors!
