Sri Lanka to reduce it’s military strength now!

A country’s military strength and sustainable economic growth are two sides of the same coin. But the military strength must be an asset and not a liability to sustain economic growth!

With the end of the civil-war in 2009, as a democracy Sri Lanka should have reduced its extraordinary number of soldiers. However, then president, like a dictator for many other purposes, did not do it; that was a huge mistake for the country.

At least in this latter wisdom, people should welcome the fact that the government has decided to do this. But it is not known whether it is a charade about the Geneva meeting in March. What else can we do but stand by and watch?

In this sinario, it has been reported that the army will reduce the number of authorized soldiers next year. With the current army’s strength of 200,783 is expected to be reduced to 135,000 by 2024, and further cuts to 100,000 by 2030 are planned.
